Acquia’s New Digital Alliance: A Best of Need Approach to Digital Experiences

Acquia Digital AllianceEveryone knows the “all in one suite” is not the way most organizations go today. It’s still a viable option for some, especially if you are just starting out and looking for the quickest way to implement your digital experience strategy. But for the many organizations with money and time invested in a ton of different technologies, the concept of best of breed has some significance.

But I don’t think it’s simply “best of breed”, it’s actually “best of need” (pretty sure I heard that term somewhere else, so if you see it let me know). There is no best option that can suit all organizations. But there are right fit solutions, and it’s those you want to ensure your organization is leveraging when you design your digital experience technical strategy.

That’s why vendors like Acquia are building these alliances with other complementary vendors – to help you find the right fit technologies that should integrate nicely together (hopefully without a ton of frustration).

It’s smart for a tech vendor to want to be a part of this kind of alliance. In the case of Acquia, the benefits range from “sales training to account mapping to joint marketing programs.”

Acquia is quickly becoming one of the most popular providers of digital experience technology. I interviewed its CMO, Tom Wentworth not that long ago and it was pretty clear from talking to him that Acquia is moving quickly in the customer experience market, running up against the likes of Adobe and Sitecore.

But an alliance like this isn’t new. Sitecore does something similar, as does marketing automation vendor Marketo, among many others.

Acquia has already partnered up with a number of complementary technology vendors including Gigya, Brightcover, Marketo, Amazon, Demandbase, Janrain, and a lot more.

This is all designed to get you to go with Acquia’s platform of course. Demonstrating a wide range of partnerships show that Acquia can work with most technologies on its open cloud platform.

From Acquia’s, Vincent Rerolle, the new vice president of corporate development:

Acquia is riding the innovation wave of open source trends in web content management through Drupal,” Rerolle said. “By expanding the technology ecosystem of best-of-breed solutions that build upon Acquia’s open cloud platform, we offer a tremendous alternative to entrenched legacy marketing suites. Through the Digital Alliance, customers have the freedom to create their own digital solutions and make the most of their technology investments.”

Having this digital alliance program is smart. But the ultimate test of its success will be how well the technologies fit together. If most of the work is done up front, and the customer is really in a plug and configure mode, then it’s definitely a win for Acquia – and its partners.
